The most useful thing we did in the whole search took forty minutes and needed nothing but a walk. Before talking seriously about a house in Rayong, we walked to the three nearest homes and spoke to the people there: how long they had been around, what was changing, where they took their kids. They told us about the road plans, about water in the dry season, and about which shop opens at six in the morning. None of it appeared in any description, and none of it was bad news, it was simply the real picture instead of the assumed one.
