Black Excellence Continues Beyond Black History Month: Rehearsals Begin for 2nd Annual Afrofusion Fashion Show and Fundraiser

When Black History Month ends, Black lives and Black excellence prevail as rehearsals begin for the second annual Afrofusion Fashion Show. Organized and hosted by UPlift Black and the UPlift Black Artist Collective, the Afrofusion Fashion Show is from 5–8 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Five Points Theatre, 1 Dunlop St. W., in Barrie.  Showcasing seven Black fashion designers from across Simcoe County and the Greater Toronto Area, the event promises a uniquely intimate couture and culture experience - with a purpose. Proceeds from the event will support the advocacy, education, and community-driven initiatives of the Simcoe County Black Coalition’s 12 member organizations.

“We’re Black 365 days of the year. The work to raise awareness and garner support for Black organizations isn’t limited to one month,” says Shelly-Ann Skinner, UPlift Black’s  President and Founder. “The Afrofusion Fashion Show is an exclusive opportunity for anyone who loves fashion and design to experience a world class showcase of award winning and emerging Black designers. With the event proceeds going back into the community in support of the Simcoe County Black Coalition, it’s a win-win.”

Celebrating African and Caribbean culture, the showcase features a curated selection of visionary designers, including the award-winning mastery of Kyle Gervacy and Qweenfecy Clothing, the art and form of BADBRID, and the luxury streetwear of KHAM! Elevating Black excellence in fashion design, music, art and entrepreneurship, the Afrofusion Fashion Show is an emotionally captivating, immersive opportunity for people from other cultures to become informed, learn about, and better understand local Black communities. Tickets priced from $29.50 to $100.00 are now available online.

“The Afrofusion Fashion Show creates an inclusive space, promoting a cultural exchange that fosters respect, connection, fostering cross-cultural understanding and unity. Our sponsorship supports the work of the Simcoe County Black Coalition. Its an vital investment in community strength, cultural celebration, and meaningful social progress,” says Natoya Johnson Russell, returning event sponsor and owner of LVXBEAUTY Medical Aesthetics and Spa. “Together, we are committed to diversity, inclusion, and community partnership while contributing to a stronger, more vibrant, and more informed Simcoe County for everyone.”

The evening will be guided by two of the region's most electric personalities and members of the Barrie Arts Award winning UPlift Black Artist Collective: singer-rapper Bianca Bridge and the Best Male Artist at the 2024 Canadian Black Screen Award-winner Emmm.
